Most Crown Victorias that come through an auction ring have 200,000 miles on them and a story about a police department. This one has 35,962 miles and a story about somebody who needed to get home safely. This 2005 was sent to O'Gara-Hess & Eisenhardt — the outfit that built armor for presidential limousines — and came back with ballistic plating, Kevlar™ flooring, and armored ballistic glass all the way around. The numbers tell you how serious the work was: a stock Crown Vic carries a GVWR right around 5,600 pounds. This one is rated at 7,304. That's roughly 1,700 pounds of protection built into a car that still looks like every other gray sedan in the parking lot, which is exactly the point. Underneath it all it's still a Panther-platform Crown Victoria with the 4.6L V8 — a drivetrain that runs forever and that any shop in the country can work on. Leather power seats, air conditioning, full-size spare, new battery just installed. Now the honest part, because that's how we do it: there is a stress fracture in the rear window. It's disclosed, you can see it, and you should factor it into your bid. This is a twenty-one-year-old vehicle selling as-is, and we make no representation as to what ballistic rating this armor package meets or whether it still performs to its original spec. If that matters to you — and it should — inspect it, bring somebody who knows armored vehicles, and satisfy yourself before you bid. What we can tell you is that it's a genuinely rare car in genuinely good condition with mileage most collectors would call low for a five-year-old vehicle, let alone one this age.
